Onam celebrations 2024
Yuvabharathi Nursery celebrated Onam on the 13th of September 2024, commemorating our rich cultural diversity, tradition and colour. Children dressed in white and cream ethnic costumes to celebrate Kerala's New Year's Day and harvest festival.
Onam festivities included expressive dance performances, such as Kathakali and Mohiniyattam. The children enacted a skit narrating how King Mahabali paid obeisance to Vamana, the avatar of Mahavishnu and went to the netherworld. The skit highlighted King Mahabali's annual homecoming, which is celebrated as Onam. The children worked in groups to lay colourful athapookalams (floral rangoli). The nelparai (rice grains) and vilakku (oil lamps) added divinity to the ambience and helped the children appreciate our traditions.
